Not without reason, the ruff appears on the logo of the Biebrza National Park.

It is a legendary bird, about which is known that there are no two identically-coloured males.

The dumb performance of ritual nuptial fights has attracted the attention of experienced nature observers for ages. It must be remembered, however, that ruffs tooting on the Biebrza river are mostly migratory birds, staying here during their migration towards the north of Europe. Therefore, the ruff is most easily spotted here in spring. The flocks staying here consist of from several hundred to several thousand individuals. However, during the breeding period, a smaller flock about 10 couples, remains here on the Biebrza river.
